2025 Grants Update
/Community Support and Grants Enable Tango Mercurio’s Growth in 2026
Tango Mercurio’s programs have earned it several grants in the past year:
Adapted Tango Program: Participant Ruth Karush donated $10,000, 25 members of the broader community contributed a total of $4,290 to the GoFundMe fundraiser, and the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rotary Club Foundation awarded us a $1,000 grant. These funds will be used to expand programming in 2026, allowing us to offer five 6-week series classes, for people with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders and their caregivers.
Live Music Program: A total of 28 DC-area tango aficionados contributed $6,875, beyond the $5,000 goal to earn a matching grant of $5,000 from the Mihir Desai Foundation. These funds will support the Tango Mercurio Ensemble of professional musicians led by bandoneonist Heyni Solera. Mark your calendars for the Ensemble’s next performances at the Matinee Milongas on March 8 and April 12.
Operating expenses: The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, which has supported us for five consecutive years now, awarded Tango Mercurio a second general operating support grant, for $51,000. These resources will fund the Dance Program, Adapted Tango Program, Live Music Program, Community Dialogue Program, and Community Outreach Program. In addition, the Mihir Desai Foundation donated $5,000 toward our operating budget. See our Events page for upcoming events and the Classes page for our regular classes.
We are very grateful to all our supporters in the DC community and beyond. If you’d like to contribute to our continued programming, please consider making a tax-deductible donation—thank you!
