Doron Levy
/Doron has a day-job (actually a 24-hours a day job) as a math professor at the University of Maryland. His area of expertise is mathematical oncology. He is currently serving as the Chair of Maryland’s Math Department and the Director of the Brin Mathematics Research Center. Doron studied math & Physics, and received a PhD in applied mathematics from the Tel Aviv University in Israel. He was a postdoc in Paris for one (wonderful) year and two years at UC Berkeley and the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, before joining the faculty at Stanford University. Doron joined Maryland in 2007 and has been tremendously enjoying everything that the metropolitan DC area has to offer. In 2014, Doron was named a Fellow of the Guggenheim Foundation.
Dancing has been a strong passion for many years, starting with ballroom dancing classes in Tel Aviv, through Paris, and many years in the California Bay Area. Doron has been a strong advocate of tango dancing as a form of social engagement, actively pursuing opportunities to bring tango to non-traditional environments.
In addition to dancing and music, Doron is closely engaged in other forms of performing arts. An awards-winning magician, Doron is a member of the Order of Merlin of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, and a magician member of the Academy of Magical Arts in Hollywood.
